Cassie Brown: Painting on Cakes with Gel Colours

Ambassadors, Baking, Cake Decorating, Cassie Brown

“I love painting. Not just on cakes, but using all mediums! There are lots of different ways to paint on cakes; there’s cocoa paint, whereby you melt the cocoa butter and add edible food dust, there’s airbrushing, there’s folk art painting, and so on. They’re all great fun to do, but gel paints are very popular and you’ll always have them in your toolbox anyway for colouring your sugar paste. Why not paint with them too?” – Cassie Brown

Cassie Brown’s Spring Tulips

Ambassadors, Baking, Cassie Brown

“I wanted to have a little play around with colour and as spring is here, what better flower than a tulip? They come in all different colours and shapes, but I also wanted to have a go at making a parrot-like tulip. I don’t have the particular veiner required to create it, so thought I’d improvise by using a cocktail stick instead. So, here it goes!” – Cassie Brown

Cassie Brown’s Create & Craft Birthday Cake

Ambassadors, Birthday, Cake Decorating, Cassie Brown, Occasions

“I was asked to come up with a birthday cake to celebrate Create and Craft‘s Birthday, but I had my work cut out! As there are so many things that I could’ve done, I was wondering where to even start. My biggest problem was that there are so many different types of crafts across the shows that I wanted to incorporate. I started by making a list of all the amazing crafts in shows, then picked out a few of my favourite ones to help me create this cake.

Soft crafts are very much in at the moment, which include knitting, crocheting, sewing, etc. I thought that the bottom of the cake could be knitted so that it would look slightly heavier. Grey is also very much in fashion this year, so decided to go with grey knit.” – Cassie Brown

Cassie Brown’s Spring Cupcake Hats

Ambassadors, Baking, Cassie Brown

00″It’s that time of year when we look at the season for inspiration. I was clearing out some old cake decorating books and came across an old book that came out in the ’90s. It shows you how to create these simple little bonnets, which, as you can see, are perfect to dress a cupcake or two. Cupcakes weren’t around those days as much as today.” – Cassie Brown

Cassie Brown’s Easter Cookies

Ambassadors, Baking, Cake Decorating, Cassie Brown

“I thought that I would make some cookies with Easter in mind. I’ve been inspired by so many talented people on Facebook who’ve created stunning cookies, so I thought I’d have a go. I rummaged through my cookie cutters to see what I had and I found a bunny cutter, a heart cutter, and circle cutters in different sizes. My recipe is very basic, but you can add flavours if you wish. If you leave them plain, they taste like shortbread – yum!” – Cassie Brown
