How to Make a Decoupage Vase

How to Make a Decoupage Vase

Decoupage is a time-honoured technique that allows you to transform even the most basic household items into magnificent home décor pieces. We’ve used this timeless technique to transform glass jars into beautiful vases, but you can use our guide to transform any item you like, no matter how big or small. You have creative freedom with this craft project, so let the fun begin…

You Will Need:

METHOD:

  1. Prepare the glue mix in a large bowl. You need to fill the bowl so you have one part glue to two parts water.
  2. Using the scissors, cut the decoupage paper or fabric into different shapes and sizes; you don’t have to be neat with this.
  3. Using a paintbrush, cover the outside of the jar with the glue mixture.
  4. Apply the fabric or paper pieces to the jar until it’s completely covered. You can layer the materials to create different effects or create a uniform design – the choice is yours!
  5. Once the jar is completely covered, brush the paper or fabric with glue to seal the edges. Allow the jar to dry completely.
  6. Once the jar has dried completely, you can add embellishments like glass beads or gems – the choice is yours!
  7. Using a new paintbrush, paint the entire jar with water-resistant gloss varnish and allow to dry completely. (You can use matte varnish, if you prefer.)
  8. To complete the jar, tie a ribbon around the top so it sits neatly under the seal. You can glue the ribbon to the jar to keep it in place, if you prefer.
  9. Complete your ribbon with a lovely 3D flower. (You can add any other embellishments at this stage; you have creative freedom!)
