How to Make an Origami Fish

A brilliant craft for kids, an origami fish is one of the simplest animals to create using the origami technique, and it’s really fun too! With it being National Pet Month and Easter, this origami fish how-to is the perfect craft to celebrate the two occasions and entertain the kids during the Easter holidays. Once you’ve a completed fish, you can add colourful stripes and scales by layering coloured paper over it or by colouring it in – the fun never stops!

You Will Need:

METHOD:

  1. Fold the paper diagonally on both sides and then open the paper out into a square again; each quarter of the creased paper should look like a triangle.
  2. Fold the paper in half so you have a horizontal crease through the middle.
  3. Going from both sides of the horizontal crease, push the crease so the paper meets in the middle and the sides fold inwards to create a triangle. You should now have a triangle with two layers.
  4. To create the tail, hold the right-hand corner of the triangle and fold one layer of the triangle back so the point of the triangle is hanging over the edge of the paper. Repeat the process on the left-hand side. The two new folds should create a tail that has two overlapped ‘fins’.
  5. Flip the triangle over so you have the tail at the back. You can secure the tail by gluing or pinning it.
  6. Now you have a complete fish. You can use coloured paper or colouring pens and pencils to create stripes or scales, or you can leave it as it is. You can make this fish again and again to decorate greetings cards, displays, and more!
