5 Gorgeous Tissue Paper Crafts

Tissue paper is one of those crafting materials that often goes under the radar – sure, it’s good for wrapping gifts, but it is actually a super versatile material, and can produce some truly stunning effects! If you’re looking for a way to use up some of the tissue paper in your stash, these five projects are certain to satisfy your papercrafting needs.

5 Gorgeous Tissue Paper Crafts

1. Tissue paper painting

Tissue paper painting is an exciting technique that allows you to unleash your creativity in a new way. When wet, the colour in tissue paper bleeds out onto the canvas and leaves behind a stunning watercolour effect. Carla Bagshaw has put together three fun projects for you to try out this technique – it’s super simple to get the hang of, so the whole family can get involved!

2. Decoupage vase

Tissue paper is perfect for gift wrap, but why not mix it up and make paper a part of the gift, too? An elegant decoupage vase makes a perfect handmade present, especially when you’re short on time or money. All you need is an old jar or bottle, some small squares of tissue paper and PVA glue. Layering the paper and glue over the vase creates a lovely stained glass effect that looks great when a tea light is placed inside, too.

3. Flowers

Once you’ve made a decoupage vase, you need a bouquet to fill it with! Fresh flowers make a great addition, but if you want to keep up the tissue paper crafts, whip up some handmade flowers that will hold their beauty forever. Try a layered effect to really make the most of the colours in your stash, then take the flowers one step further with some extra embellishments – tiny gold beads would look adorable as pollen! 4. Party Decorations

One of the most exciting parts of planning a party is picking out the decorations, and it’s even more special if you make them yourself! There are so many things you can do with tissue paper to create impressive decorations for any occasion – think long, sweeping garlands, giant pom-poms, simple streamers or pop-up honeycombs. The possibilities are endless!

5. Rainbow

Rainbows have popped up in windows across the country in recent months as a sign of hope and cheer. If you haven’t tried any rainbow crafts yet, or you’re looking for a new way to get colourful, try out this impressive tissue paper rainbow. Made from a paper template and tiny scraps of tissue paper, the ruffled effect provides great texture and adds an extra element of creativity.
