6 Easy Craft Ideas for Your Home

With many of us spending more time in our homes than ever before, making sure our spaces are filled with things that make us happy and comfortable is incredibly important for our wellbeing. Here we’ve rounded up six DIY projects that will help you decorate your home with colour, beauty and a touch of homemade charm.

6 Easy Craft Ideas for Your Home

1. Tissue paper painting

Carla Bagshaw’s tissue paper painting technique is a fab way to create mixed media art for your walls. Using a hexagon template, simply cut out brightly coloured tissue paper shapes – try the cheerful colours of Bright Ideas Spring Tissue (505344) – and lay them out on a canvas in a geometric pattern. Simply adding water with a paintbrush and then removing the tissue paper after a few moments will create an effortless watercolour-effect background for your artwork. For the full steps, click here.

2. Hanging heart

This stunner by Trimcraft’s Craft Coordinator, Kathy Hodson, is suitable for all skill levels, and it’s perfect for raiding your craft stash for spare bits and bobs. Jazz up the simple wooden heart design with die cut shapes, jewels, stamps and pretty patterned papers. Click here for Kathy’s materials and steps, including advice on how she got so much dimension in her petal shapes (spoiler alert: use a ball tool and foam mat!).

3. Garden pillow

Stuart Hillard’s cheerful floral design would look picture perfect in a conservatory or out on your garden furniture – just don’t let your pretty make get ruined in the rain! Stuart uses the AccuQuilt GO Baby and dies to craft up a cushion that’s ideal for beginners. To get started, check out the full steps here.

4. Easy woven basket

Basket weaving might sound like a complicated project for the uninitiated, but by using a cardboard frame you can whip up lots of different shapes in no time. For tutorials on how to make triangle, round and square baskets, click here. You can personalise your design with the fabric that suits your taste, like colourful yarn, pretty fabric strips or shiny ribbon. We think the jute twine used here gives the baskets a lovely natural feel.

5. Banner

Add a splash of colour to your craft room with Kelly Creates’ bright and beautiful banner. Who knew a simple scribble of colour could look so good? Brush letter your favourite inspirational quote overtop, and finish off the plain fabric with a fun pom pom ribbon – with House of Alistair’s 1cm Pom Pom Trim Bundle (532016) you’ll have plenty of colours to choose from. To start check out the full steps here.

6. Beach sign

Whether you live by the sea or you just want to channel summertime vibes, Amanda Formaro’s nautical make is sure to add something special to your home. All you need to get started is large ice lolly sticks (534583), pebbles, shells, twine and acrylic craft paints. Creating the weathered look is simple: paint a layer of sea foam green and then dry brush white paint overtop. Find the full steps here.
