I have been sewing for as long as I can remember - my family joke that I was born with a needle in my hand! Sewing was just something I was drawn to… initially, I wanted to be a fashion designer, but eventually I found my happy place within the costume world, due to my love of corsetry! I became professionally trained in London as a period pattern cutter, which led me to work in many great costume departments for TV productions, something which was extremely interesting. When it came to starting a family, I decided to leave the film sets and go back to what I loved: sewing. I started creating bespoke wedding dresses and formal attire for clients. I loved this work, as no two projects were ever the same… there was always a brand new idea to create, or an exciting new challenge to face!
My sewing career has been a long and varied one, including running classes, and working alongside companies creating costumes and commercial items, too. I never thought it would lead me to become a guest on Create & Craft though! This new challenge has proven to be so much fun, and I have met some wonderful people who love getting creative and crafty just as much as I do!
Corsets and wedding dresses
Cotton, taffeta and lace
Cutting two left sides of something, probably!
Don’t get so bogged down by the tiniest details! You miss the bigger picture, and lose the fun… pretty apt for life in general too I guess!
