5 Creative Ways to Craft with Natural Objects

Getting out and about in nature is one of life’s true joys since the lockdown began. Whether you’re spending more time in your garden or taking your daily walk around the park, collecting flowers, leaves, shells and other natural objects can be a fun activity, as well as a great way to bring a breath of fresh life into your crafts. Read on for five of our favourite ways to craft with nature.

5 Creative Ways to Craft with Natural Objects

1. Flower petal stained glass

This project is so easy, but the end result is truly stunning! Collect a bouquet of colourful flowers from your garden, and then carefully arrange the petals on contact paper in your desired pattern. Once you’re finished, hang your pretty designs in the windows for all to admire.

2. Pressed flower phone case

If you’d rather preserve your flowers as keepsakes, pressing is a great option. After pressing, there are endless crafty ways to use the flower petals, but we love this phone case option. Follow the steps here to make your own fabulous personalised version. To set the design, you’ll need clear epoxy resin – try Anna Marie Designs Viva Decor Fine Art Resin (516079).

3. Pounded flower art

With a sheet of A4 watercolour paper (478762) and a few flowers from the garden, you can create a simple piece of artwork that would make a wonderful gift for a loved one. Grab a hammer and follow the video here to learn how to make your own.

4. Seashell candles

If you know someone who’s in need of a little rest and relaxation, these candles would make a perfect little pick-me-up! Plus, they’re easy enough to whip up in an afternoon if you live near the sea or have a stash of seashells at home. Once you’ve chosen your shells, use wax chips and tea light wicks, or a set like Eazi Candle Natural Soy Blend Wax with Wicks (470146), and follow the steps here to create the candle.

5. Nature mobile

Create a lovely, natural hanging decoration for your home in just a few simple steps. First, pick some leaves and flowers from the garden – if there’s an out of control vine or hedge you need to tame, you could kill two birds with one stone! Then, follow the steps here to thread your mobile together and attach it to a large stick for easy hanging.
