I got my first job in TV in 2001 as a runner on talk shows; since then I've held a number of roles behind the scenes - right up to Senior Producer on Create and Craft and Ideal World! There's nothing like the excitement and preparation of live TV, so when the opportunity to step in front of camera came up, I jumped at the chance!
I also present for a local TV channel back home; it's a real pleasure to meet interesting characters and try new activities around Norfolk. Between that and the fun and games at Create and Craft, life is never dull!
Away from the studio I like to get out and about the countryside, whether it's walking my cocker spaniel Pepper, trekking up hills, or running around a rugby pitch - I'd much rather be outside come rain or shine (ideally shine!)
What did you do before Create and Craft?
I first joined Create and Craft at the end of 2009 as an assistant producer before becoming a producer a year later - I used to be the person in the ear of the presenters trying to keep the show on track! I also (and still do) work in local TV back in Norfolk, I hugely enjoy filming out and about and meeting the people I share my favourite county with.
Most embarrassing on-screen moment?
What I do on and off screen is embarrassing! I once presented a feature learning to shave with a cut-throat razor (using a balloon I must add!). I clearly pushed too hard and then it popped, covering my face and shirt in shaving foam... twice.
Tell us a secret
I tend to eat my advent calendar in the first few days of December.
What's your idea of the perfect Sunday (when you're not working)?
A lie-in with the dog on the bed and sport on the TV, followed by a big roast dinner at lunch and a dog-walk with friends in the afternoon, all rounded off with drinks in the garden.
Which living person do you most admire and why?
I have to go for persons - my parents. They've been married for over 40 years and have always supported and encouraged me and my sister to do whatever we want to do. What more can you ask for?
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself and others?
Deplore! Ooh, that's heavy, I don't really deplore or hate anything.
Aside from property, what's the most expensive thing you've bought?
My car. It costs too much to fill up and doesn't do enough miles.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Sweets, sweets and more sweets.
How would you like to be remembered?
Genuine and fun to be around. I'd also like the name Dan BanCraft to catch on… no luck so far.
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
That I can shower and have breakfast in under 15 mins. It's a fine art I've perfected.
Favourite Create and Craft product?
Baby Blue. It's a great way to get into die cutting and some of the results and finished samples are outstanding.
Which phrase do you overuse?
It's not a phrase but I do get random words mixed up. For example I'll be thinking of BBQ but say 'bowl', so keep an ear out for that!
If you could travel back in time, which period would you visit?
The golden age of variety in the '50s, '60s & '70s. I love old school entertainers like Forsyth and Monkhouse, I would have loved to have gone to the Palladium and end-of-pier shows in their hayday.

Embrace a "deliberate mistake". If things go wrong you can create something you'd never have thought of.
