  • David Bradford

"It's a very unique channel with a very loyal following - that's why I love it so much!"

Dave's love of broadcasting started at the tender age of 15 when he became one of the youngest presenters at Bournemouth's local hospital radio station. Little did he realise that his then hobby would soon become his career - as he went on to work for many radio stations in the south, including Plymouth Sound, Ocean Sound, 2CR, Southern FM and Wave 105. His popularity on the radio meant it wasn't long before the offer of panto came along and he starred on the stage in Brighton, Eastbourne and his home town of Bournemouth.! Working with Stefan Dennis, June Brown, Bill Owen and even Dusty Bin were real career highlights! He now has his old panto posters up in the dressing room he shares with long-time buddy Dean Wilson!

It was Dave's voice, rather than his face that appeared first on TV. He was one of the continuity announcers on ITV for many years, introducing programmes on TVS, Meridian, LWT and later ITV1, & ITV 3. He was also the person the station relied on to apologise for any problems when things went wrong! He thinks it was this experience that helped him prepare for the role of a Live Shopping TV Presenter.

Dave started working in shopping TV back in 1993, when he met Dean. Seven years later, both Dave and Dean were offered jobs with Granada TV's SHOP at Liverpool Albert Dock. After the station closed down, Dave took a break, before putting in a call to his former SHOP boss, who had moved to work at Ideal World. 13 years on, Dave has designed his own range of jewellery, imported a best-selling jewellery cleaner and presented thousands of hours of unscripted live TV! Having been one of the first presenters on Create and Craft, he is delighted to be on the channel full time, working with “the best bunch" of people.

What did you do before Create and Craft?
I was a television announcer for ITV, introducing the programmes, and also a local radio presenter.

    Most embarrassing on-screen moment?
Setting fire to a toaster on my first-ever IW show - the instructions were left inside the grill!

    Tell us a secret
I'm in the Barry Manilow fan club!

What's your idea of the perfect Sunday (when you're not working)?
Pub lunch in the country with an ice-cold Chardonnay.

Who do you most admire and why?
Joan Rivers: for someone who's gone through so many ups and downs (personal tragedy, financial problems, etc.) she bounces back, tells it like it is and says what we are probably thinking but are to afraid to say.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself and others?
Insincerity and "have a nice day" falseness.

Aside from property, what's the most expensive thing you've bought?
    My watch, probably!

    What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Relaxing in Skiathos, a tiny Greek Island where I escape each year.

What keeps you wake at night?
    The foxes in my garden.

How would you like to be remembered?
    As a genuine, nice bloke.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Don't live to work, work to live.

    Favourite Create and Craft product?
TODO and Debbie Moore's book folding

    Which phrase do you overuse?
    Believe you me!

If you could travel back in time, which period would you visit?
I would have loved to have been around Liverpool in the '60s.
