5 Festive décor ideas for a kids bedroom

Little ones will love these DIY projects to celebrate the Christmas season

5 Festive décor ideas for a kids bedroom

1. Sock garland

Invite the spirit of Christmas into the home by hanging a lovely garland made from pre-loved socks over your child's bed. You'll need a piece of bakers twine, either red or green, cut to the desired length. Source old, colourful socks and embellish them with buttons, pom poms and glitter. Tie or glue strings to each sock, then tie again around the bakers twine before hanging to make a lovely display.

2. Santa pillow

What's better than cuddles with Santa? A cute festive pillow in the shape of every kids' favourite legendary figure is the perfect addition to any room. You'll need a black marker, fabric, red fabric paint, a paint brush, scissors, embellishments for the eyes and nose, thread and stuffing. Source a Santa pattern online and trace the back and front onto a piece of fabric, including Santa's hat. Using red fabric paint, colour in the Santa hat then leave to dry. Sew your fabric together, leaving a gap for the cushion stuffing. Once you've stuffed your cushion, sew up the gap, then add your embellishments to make Santa's face. Place the pillow on your child's bed and wait for the joyous giggles.

3. Gift boxes

If you've got empty cardboard boxes lying around, why not upcycle them into gift boxes? Source wrapping paper, glue, clear tape, scissors, ribbon or any other embellishments you'd like to add. Simply wrap the wrapping paper around the box, then secure using tape. Wrap ribbon around it to make a bow, then place any other embellishments you have to make your design even more Christmassy.

4. Paper ornaments

For a simple décor solution, paper ornaments are just the thing. It's a time-saving project, and your kids will be over the moon with the finished result. Have a look online for inspiration for the designs you'd like to create, then you'll need a pencil, coloured cardstock, scissors, string for hanging (optional) and gems. Trace your designs onto cardstock, cut them out, then stick string to each before hanging them around a child's bedroom.

5. Mini jar lantern

Create a magical atmosphere in any room with a mini jar lantern. It will be just the thing to get the kids even more excited about the festive period. Source a mini glass jar and battery-operated tea lights or fairy lights, and ribbon. Place the lights in the jar before wrapping ribbon around it. Create as many as you like for a vibrant glow.
