Double Die Butterfly Card

“I love using dies in ways that are different, both mixing & matching, I think this project does just that, perfectly. Using multiple circle die cuts to create a frame around a second layer of butterfly die cuts and then adding colourful butterflies to the base layer. The finished result is a beautiful, modern & clean creation.” Ann-marie Vaux

You will need:

  • 7x7inch White Blank Base Card
  • White Cardstock
  • Dark Blue Cardstock
  • 2 x different sized Circle dies (sized just larger than the butterfly die)
  • Butterfly stamp & matching die set
  • Sentiment Stamps – could be any I used Lisa Hortons Ticker Tape Stamps
  • Black Permanent Ink
  • Ranger Distress Inks in mixed colours – blues & greens, these could be any colours
  • White Pearls
  • Craft Masking tape or Washi Tape (if you do not have magnetic cutting mats)
  • Tape Runner or Adhesive tape
  • 3D foam
  • Scissors & Paper trimmer

Time to Make: Approx 20 - 40 mins

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Step-by-step:

  1. Cut a piece of Dark Blue cardstock to 6.8inches 6.8inches and a second piece of White cardstock to 6.6inchs x 6.6inches, do not attach to the card front at this time<

  1. Die cut the circles into the white cardstock across the card layer

  1. Next place the white die cut layer over the blue cardstock layer and position the butterfly die – you will need to do this for every circle you have die cut in the white layer.

TIP: If you have a magnetic cutting mat, positioning will be easier but if not, use Craft Masking Tape or Washi Tape to secure the die in place.

  1. Once you have die cut all the butterflies into the blue cardstock, your card will look like photo4 and everything will marry over each other.

  1. Rubber stamp the butterfly 6 or 7 times and ink the butterflies in coordinating ink.

  1. Die cut the stamped & coloured butterflies, you can use the Craft Masking tape to hold the die in place if you do not have a magnetic cutting mat.

  1. Stamp a sentiment that will match your card in black permanent ink for a contrast against the white cardstock, this could be for any occasion, after stamping cut out the sentiment.

  1. Using 3D foam start putting the card together with the layer of blue cardstock onto the blank card base

  1. Next attach the white cardstock layer using 3D foam, this will give both layers some height and create a shadow between layers.

  1. Using flat glue, add the butterflies between the die cut butterfly, attaching the die cut butterfly to the base of the card, through the die cut layers TIP: Add 3D foam to just the back of the wings and flat glue under the butterfly body, this will make the wings stand out on the card.

  1. Attach the stamped sentiment to the card and a few extra butterflies around the circles as well as a couple of white pearls

  1. The finished card.
