Fishing Bag Game

This is a little pouch game I decided to make for mums on the go with kid’s that need something to do. It's very simple to make, and took me about an hour from start to finish. You could get the kid's involved in making it as you could hand stitch or machine it.

You will need:

  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing threads
  • Fat Quarter
  • Twine
  • Pins or Clips
  • ScanNcut
  • Foam or felt
  • Glue gun
  • Paper clips
  • Magnet

Time to Make: 1 hour

Skill Level: Advanced

Step-by-step:

  1. Fishing Bag Game

    Press your fabric

Cut out a rectangle of fabric that measures approximately 7” X 19”

  2. Fishing Bag Game Fishing Bag Game

Press your fabric 1/4” at each end, this is to keep a clean edge

Then press approximately 1” from both ends of the fabric, this is to create the channel for the twine, as seen in the picture

Fold your fabric with right sides together and finger press to make a slit crease to show the bottom of the pouch.

  3. Fishing Bag Game

Fold your fabric in half with right sides together

Sew along the 2 sides of the pouch with a seem allowance of 1/4”. Sew up to the pressed edge as indicated in the picture, leaving the top part un-sewn.

  4. Fishing Bag Game

Open out the pressed top edges on the pouch

Press the seam allowance open and stitch, as shown in the picture. Repeat this on both sides. This will make 2 flaps at the top of the pouch.

  5. Fishing Bag Game

Now we are going to make the drawstring channel by folding the flaps down about 1”.

Sew along the bottom of the channel so that the fold will appear on the inside of the pouch.

  6. Fishing Bag Game

Turn the pouch the right way and thread your ribbon through the channels

Tie a knot in the end of the ribbons and the pouch is done

  7. Fishing Bag Game

    Making your fish

Find the fish file on your ScanNcut and load on to the edit page.

    Ungroup the image

Delete any detail lines such as eye and gills, so that you are left with just the fish outline.

Size to approximately 2” length ways

  8. Fishing Bag Game

You can either use foam or felt to make your fish, this is up to you, I have used foam.

Cut out 6 fish in one colour and 6 in another colour. This will make the front and back of the fish. so you will end up with 3 complete fish in each colour but you can always make more if you wish to.

  9. Fishing Bag Game

Sandwich a paper clip in-between 2 fish pieces and glue in to place, repeat for all the fish.

  10. Fishing Bag Game

To make the fishing rod, use an old chopstick or a piece of wooden dowel

Attach some twine to the top of the rod and then glue or tie a magnet to the end of the twine.

All finished and time to play.
    Happy Making.
