About Hayley Evans

What did you do before Create and Craft?

I have a background in cancer research but my main thing is hairdressing and hairstyling. As well as cutting and colouring, I also style hair for weddings, photo shoots, catwalk shows etc.

What made you apply for job via The Big Audition?

I applied for the big audition because I always like to have a challenge, or an exciting project going on. I have done a bit of TV presenting, so when I saw the advert I thought that sounds like fun and I applied. In the application I told them about my love of zombies, travel and crafting. They called me up and told me they had a job combining two of my favourite things... crafting and TV presenting... I was VERY excited!

Tell us a secret!

I can do lots of different accents and a few impressions (some need more work than others).

What’s your idea of the perfect Sunday?

My perfect Sunday is definitely a sunny autumn one! Walking with friends and family in the leaves., then going to the pub for a MASSIVE roast dinner followed by a warm chocolate fudge cake with vanilla ice cream. Then home to get all cosy and watch a film!

Which person do you most admire and why?

My mum, because she’s amazing! She looks after everyone - her parents, her kids, her grandkids, her friends and her patients. She has sooo many friends so other people must like her as much as I do! She’s generous, funny, clever, full of advice, I don’t know anyone as kind as her and she talks a lot, like me!

What is your best personality trait?

Hmmm... I played a game on a hen do in Ibiza, and the bride to be had to say what everyone’s best trait was. She said mine was open mindedness, which I thought was really nice. I enjoy getting to know people whatever their story and asking lots of questions. I’m pretty friendly too.

What is your pet peeve?

I have lots:

  • Standing on travelators

  • When shops don’t do contactless

  • When I forget my sunglasses

The list could go on a bit so I’ll stop there!!

Aside from a house, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?

8 years ago - My 7 stop plane ticket around the world!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate, raw cookie dough and zombie movies!

How would you like to be remembered?

I guess for being a good friend, daughter and mum. A bit fun sometimes, making awesome BBQ chicken nachos and chocolate mud cake!

What’s the most important lesson life has taught you?

That time really does fly! It’ll be Friday before you know it, and Christmas again!

What’s your favourite Create and Craft product?

Soooo many!!! I love anything messy, and anything to do with home furnishing.

All the decoupage papers are gorgeous. I love Screen Sensation and so do my kids. And obviously Folk Marbling paint, the possibilities are endless with that stuff!! I have recently got into jewellery making so the TotallyBeads kits are perfect for me.

What’s your best crafty tip?

I am having so much fun sometimes, I keep on adding to a project and can end up overdoing it. Stand back take a look at your craft before you add the next bit. You may already have something wonderful! Also If you have an idea don’t be afraid to try it, a lot of the ideas I have in my head don’t look so good in real life, but some look even better than I’d imagined. The fun is in the trying!
