Makes 4 Sloppy Joes:

  • 500g of Minced Beef (use minced pork, if you prefer)
  • 240g of Tomato Ketchup (use gluten-free and/or vegan-friendly tomato ketchup if you have a vegan or gluten-free diet)
  • 60ml of Water
  • 2 tbsp of Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp of Worcestershire Sauce (leave the Worcestershire sauce out if you have a gluten-free diet)
  • 1 tbsp of Cooking-Oil
  • 2 tsp of Mustard (use a gluten-free and/or vegan-friendly mustard if you have a vegan or gluten-free diet)
  • ½ tsp of Garlic Powder (or crushed fresh garlic)
  • ½ tsp of Onion Powder (or ¼ finely chopped onion)
  • ½ tsp of Salt
  • 4 Sliced White or Wholemeal Rolls (use gluten-free and/or vegan friendly rolls if you have a vegan or gluten-free diet)

  • Large Saucepan
  • Mixing Spoon
  • 4 Serving Plates

  1. Add 1 tbsp of cooking oil to a large saucepan and heat on a medium heat until simmering. Add the mince to the heated oil and cook it until it is no longer pink in colour.
  2. Pour the water, ketchup and brown sugar into the saucepan and gently stir the ingredients until they’re well combined and the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Increase the heat to a high temperature and then add the Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic, onion, and salt to the saucepan. Heat the ingredients until they reach boiling point.
  4. Reduce the heat to a low temperature and place a lid on the saucepan; leave the mince filling to further cook for 30 minutes.
  5. Allow the mince to cool for 10 minutes after taking it off the heat; fill the rolls with an equal amount of mince, and then serve and enjoy!
