  • Food: I do adore Italian food, but if I had to narrow it down, I would go for arancini - they’re deep fried rice balls filled with a bolognaise type sauce. They’re from Sicily, and they’re so gorgeous!
  • Drink: It would have to be a pint of craft lager after a long day.
  • Film: I’m not much of a film buff, but I would probably opt for a musical… so I will go with Hairspray!
  • Music/Band: Years and Years, or Florence and the Machine.
  • Colour: Blue.
  • Season: Summer, without hesitation - I deplore the cold.
  • Word: Fabulous.
  • Book: Of Mice and Men.
  • Place: Chiangmai, in Northern Thailand.
  • Smell: Probably caramelised onions or Italian pizza… om nom nom!

About Joe

Joe is already a recognisable face on Create and Craft’s sister channel, Ideal World, where he has been a resident chef and guest demonstrator for over 8 years. Joe’s interest in food and creativity came from an early age, when he made the decision to forego higher education and immerse himself in the world of catering! Hailing from Essex, and being a proud ‘cheeky chappy’ Joe now resides in his favourite city of Manchester. As well as his passions for food and creativity, Joe also cites his other interests (or obsessions!) as travel, unicorns, Eurovision and musical theatre.

Joe can still be found presenting regular shows on Ideal World, as well as hosting his food and travel documentary series The Food Guide on the Travel XP network.


What did you do before Create and Craft?

I was a guest presenter on Create and Craft’s sister channel, Ideal World, where I still continue to pop up from time to time! Prior to that, I had a career in the hospitality industry.

Most embarrassing on-screen moment?

Pouring meringue all over a presenter’s head whilst selling a food mixer... if you have a look around on the Ideal World YouTube channel, you might just find said clip!

Tell us a secret

Haha! I’m terrible at keeping secrets, so I’m afraid I don’t have any left to tell!

What's your idea of the perfect Sunday (when you're not working)?

It would have to begin with popping to the shops in my joggers to get a coffee and a paper, then getting back in bed for an hour or two, followed by Sunday lunch out with friends, and a nice afternoon walk. Maybe then a catch-up on the phone in the evening with my mum, to top it off perfectly… oh and there would probably be cake in there somewhere too!

Which person do you most admire and why?

The Dalai Lama, because of his teachings towards tolerance and acceptance. I firmly believe we have far more in common with each other, than things that divide us.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself and others?

Being easily led… this can be both an amazing trait and a terrible one, for obvious reasons!

Aside from property, what's the most expensive thing you've bought?

In 2016 I took three months out of work and went travelling around Asia and Australia. It was expensive, but the memories will last a lifetime.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

A Steps megamix!

How would you like to be remembered?

As someone who was kind, and who made people smile.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

We are here for a good time, not a long time.

Favourite Create and Craft product?

The Tattered Lace Bee Embossing Folder - in one of my auditions for Create and Craft, it was one of the products I had to present! I live in Manchester, and the symbol of Mancunians is the bee… so I need to get my hands on one, and create some postcards for friends!

Which phrase do you overuse?

“…in my life” which I add to the end of every positive statement... ”That was the best cake I’ve ever eaten in my life!”

If you could travel back in time, which period would you visit?

Probably the swinging sixties - I think I would look great in a floral cravat!
