How to Make ‘LOVE’ Bunting

How to Make ‘LOVE’ Bunting

Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to get crafting some lovely love-themed projects – and what says ‘I love you’ more than a ‘LOVE’ bunting? Banners have been around since ancient times, used to relay a message to a large group of people. This simple project will help you to step outside the box and proclaim your love for another with a bright, bold and beautiful handmade gesture.

You Will Need

METHOD: Valentine’s Day Bunting for Your Love

  1. Take a few sheets of tissue paper in different colours and cut up little squares measuring 1 - 2 inches. Put them into a little bowl and set aside. Alternatively, you could cut them into triangles, hearts, or any other shape you so desire.
  2. Cut a sheet of black paper into quarters and draw out letters on each one to spell out ‘LOVE’. You may find it easier to draw out the letters first in pencil or a colour that will show up on the paper. Place the cutting mat on your work surface, lay a sheet out on top, and cut out your letters. For the ‘O’, cut out a smaller inside too so that you have a black middle.
  3. Peel the back off the contact paper and place the black paper face down on the sticky side; ensure that it covers the full surface. Trim the edges if the contact paper is on show.
  4. Place your tissue paper squares (or shapes) on the sticky surface one at a time, but overlap slightly so that the entire surface is covered and the colours mix.
  5. Flip them over and you should have beautiful coloured letters. Arrange the papers in order so your bunting reads ‘LOVE’, and then flip them over again and place a bead of glue along the top of the letters. Take a length of string and press it on top of the glue.
  6. Leave the bunting to dry completely before hanging up in your home.
