MDF Storage Unit

MDF Storage Unit

Give your storage a new lease of life with this fun project by Louise Dunbar

You will need:

  • MDF storage Unit
  • White Gesso or white paint
  • Distress Inks/Oxides
  • Stencils
  • Glitter paste
  • Quote Stamp
  • Patterned papers
  • Butterfly stamp

Time to Make: 2 hours (including drying time)

Skill Level: Advance

  1. Smooshed Card If your unit comes flat packed, the first thing you’ll need to do is assemble this, glue it and let it dry before moving onto the next stage.

Always assemble your MDF before adding any paint. As paint will make the MDF swell slightly making it harder to slot together. Once assembled, paint a thin coat of white gesso or white paint all over the unit and set aside to dry. The thinner the layer of paint you apply, the quicker it will dry.

Once dry, you can decide if it’s covered enough or you can apply a second coat. I didn’t bother with a second coat as I knew I wanted to add the distress inks to it.
  2. Smooshed Card Measure the width and depth of the shelves and cut some patterned papers to these sizes. I used some Graphic 45 bloom collection papers, but you can choose anything you like. When these are cut to size, apply them to the inside of the shelves using red liner tape.
  3. Smooshed Card Choose 3 or 4 colours of distress ink and blend these over the sides of your unit, to add some colour to your project. Next, if you chose to, take a stencil and place it where you’d like it to go securing with some low tack masking tape. Then take some glitter paste and spread this through your stencil, add as many of the stencil design as you’d like.
  4. Smooshed Card Add your favourite quote stamp, then finish off with a few colourful butterflies.

There you have it, a beautiful and useful storage unit for all your crafting goodies.
