Create soft and sweet crafts for the little ones in your life
Bunting makes for a lovely decoration in the nursery. You could opt for plain, pastel colours, or even cut out the baby’s name and a ‘welcome’ message to stick on the flags. Simply use a die such as Ultimate Crafts L'aquarelle Floral Bunting Die, your ScanNCut, or make your own template, to ensure the flags are the same size. Then hang your lovely creation on the side of the crib or along the walls, and admire.
Keep the little bundle of joy warm and cosy with a soft blanket made with love, using a pattern like Bernat’s Baby Blanket. The soft super-chunky yarn ensures it’s a quick project, while the pastel variegated colours make the end result gorgeous. Plus, it’s machine-washable – handy for any accidents.
A personalised cushion displaying the name and birthdate of the little one is a lovely touch for the nursery. Sewing a cross stitch pattern on the front of the cushion case is an easy way to create it, and you can add a pretty finishing touch by running a ribbon around the border. Make sure to use an air soluble pen to plan the lines, so they don’t come out lopsided.
It’s surprisingly easy to create your very own mobile. Simply cut out simple shapes like stars and hearts from soft materials such as felt. Then, for each one, sew two shapes together, leaving a small hole, stuff, and sew back up attaching a length of ribbon. You can tie the ribbons to an embroidery hoop, and suspend your newly made shapes.
Pom-poms are super easy to make, and their soft, fluffy appearance is perfect for a nursery. Why not make a few in a range of different sizes, using coloured yarn that matches the nursery’s decor such as Korbond DK Baby Pink Acrylic Yarn, and hang them from the ceiling to create sweet decorations? Your heart will soar when your little one innocently reaches out towards them in interest.
Create a sweet decorative touch for the room by adding pretty trims to the curtains and lampshades. Whether you use ribbons, fringing or lace (or even crochet or knit some of your own!) the trims are guaranteed to be lovely. You can add them to the blankets too, but be careful as little fingers can get stuck in the holes.
Making little decorations for a nursery is lots of fun, and by using a CD ROM like Cutting Craftorium Play with hundreds of designs to choose from, it’ll be hard to stop. Have a go yourself, and create a sweet baby bottle or rocking cradle. Just make sure the pretty decorations are out of reach of wandering hands.
