Method

  1. Freehand draw two trees on brown textured cardstock and cut out three of each tree type. Emboss the trees using a Wood grain Embossing Folder and enhance the grain on the trunks with brown ink. Trim two of the tree layers into pieces for layering the trunks later.

  2. Hand cut a rough oval in a section of main tree trunk, back with black cardstock. Either die cut a small owl or stamp an owl and hand cut out. Add the small owl to the hole cut from the trunk. Cut a matching hole in a trimmed trunk section and layer over the hole using 3D foam squares with the owl peeping out. Add an extra set of wings, slightly curled, at the bottom edge. Layer the trimmed sections on the main trunks using 3D foam dots.

  3. Use extra-large scalloped circle dies and circle nesting dies to die cut to create circles of foliage. Ink the edges and adhere to a background paper. Attach the trees over the circles with 3D foam dots.

  4. Die cut an assortment of leaves using the flowers die set and green textured cardstock. Ink the edges, layer with 3D foam dots and add to the trees. Try using different sized leaves or fold the top leaf to create a layered effect and add height to the scene.

  5. To make the owls, stamp the Owl on different printed papers. Follow the steps below to paper piece the owls using 3D foam dots to create a decoupage effect. Attach the owls to the scene using 3D foam dots or a glue gun.

  6. Die cut the grass border using English countryside border dies in different shades of green textured cardstock. Die cut the flower borders in plain cardstock and patterned papers. Ink and attach the borders to the front of the scene using 3D foam tape. Embellish the grass borders with a few buttons and hand-cut flowers. To finish, place the scene inside a box frame.

1. Stamp the owl image using black dye ink on a selection of different papers.

2. Trim away different sections of each stamped image using scissors, or a craft knife for intricate areas.

3. Attach corresponding trimmed sections over the original stamped image, with 3D foam dots, to create different owl images.
