Birthday Book

“When it comes to birthdays, it’s easy to forget about the dates coming up then rush around to make a card on time. Here, I've designed a birthday card storage book so you can keep track of those important dates and have storage pockets to keep the cards which you make until it’s time to send them.” Louise Dunbar

  • Papercraft
  • 1-2 hours
  • Intermediate

Tools and materials required

  • Good quality A4 card stock (250gsm Min)
  • Paper or coloured card stock for matting and white for layering
  • A 2 hole punch
  • Split rings
  • Inks, stamps, embellishments
  • Red liner tape

Take your chosen base colour and cut 13 sheet to 8x8’’, if you cut along the long edge first, the shorter cut away piece can be kept to make the pockets, which should measure 8x3’’

Take a pocket piece and an 8x8’’ piece and line it up so that the bottom edges line up together, then using a hole punch marked off at A5, punch through the 2 pieces of card, you’ll have 2 holes one the 8’’ piece and only 1 on the smaller piece. Repeat for all remaining pieces of card.

To make the pockets, you’ll need to add some red liner tape along the 2 short edges and the bottom longer length (note that it will attach to the 8x8’’ so make sure it will line up with the punched hole) Repeat for all pages. You’ll only need 12 pockets, unless you want another one on the back page as well.

Once you have made all the pages with pockets, you can now decorate them. I used a different colour mat layer for each of my pages and pockets. So go ahead and cut these out, the sizes i cut out for the pages were 7x7’ for the mats and 6.5x6.5’’ for the topper pieces. I used my ScanNCut to design a page layout so i had space to write in the dates for peoples birthdays, I have shared the file here for you to use. (please note that the use of this design is for personal use only and not intended to be sold or shared)

Mat and layer up your pages, then feed them onto the split rings to create your book. Add in those special dates and add any embellishment you wish to finish. Now you’ll have a note of all the birthdays/anniversaries for the year and a pocket to store your handmade cards in.
