Boudoir Basket

Stitch this unique basket – perfect for storing all your craft essentials

  • Sewing
  • < 1 hour
  • Intermediate

You will need:

  • Cotton print fabric from Chirpee
  • Magee fat quarters
  • White cotton fabric, plain
  • Lightweight wadding
  • Flower buttons

  1. Cut pieces of cotton print, wadding and white cotton 27cm by 40cm and pin together, right sides out. Fold in half so the cotton print is on the inside and stitch down both side seams. Trim the seam allowance and zig-zag stitch over the top to neaten.

  2. While the basket is inside out, push one side seam inside so it sits along the bottom fold. Stitch across the triangle formed at the corner, 5cm from the point. Unfold and repeat for the other side to create a flat-bottomed basket. Turn right sides out and handstitch the points to the inside walls.

  3. Cut a 5cm by 55cm length of co-ordinating fabric for binding and pin to the inside top of the basket, right sides together 1cm lower than the edge. Fold in 5mm at the beginning of the binding and trim the excess to leave a 1cm overlap. Stitch in place, turn the fabric up and over the raw edges of the basket. Fold under 5mm on the raw edge before pinning to the outside of the basket creating a cuff. Top stitch in place.

  4. Cut two pieces of fabric 7cm by 12cm. Fold in half lengthways, right sides together and stitch along the long edge to make a tube. Turn right sides out, fold in 5mm at the ends of each tube and slip stitch closed. Use decorative buttons to sew the ends of the handles to each side of the basket.
