A timeless favourite with kids and adults, these chocolate birds’ nests are simple treats that will delight the whole family. Better yet, they are easy-peasy ‘cakes’ that kids absolutely love making. This simple, fuss-free recipe means that you can spend an afternoon making these classic treats with the children, keeping them entertained and their tummies full!
Fill a saucepan with water and heat on the hob until simmering. Make sure your saucepan is slightly smaller than your heatproof or glass mixing bowl so the bowl can sit neatly on top of the water, without causing it to spill.
Break the chocolate into chunks. Place the chocolate chunks, butter and syrup into the mixing bowl. Sit the bowl on top of the saucepan to heat the ingredients.
Stir the chocolate, butter and syrup until they’re well combined and smooth. Once the ingredients are well combined, remove the mixing bowl from the heat and immediately add the cornflakes. (Remember, you can use any cereal you like.)
Mix the cornflakes into the chocolate until they’re completely coated.
Place 12 cupcake cases in the muffin tin and then spoon a tablespoon of the chocolate-coated cornflakes into each case. Keep filling the cases until you run out of mixture.
Place three chocolate eggs in the centre of each nest. Once all the nests are decorated, put them in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, remove the nests from the fridge and enjoy!
