Concertina Memory Book – No Dies needed

“Memory books are hugely popular and there are lots of great dies to help you achieve fancy shaped books, but if you haven’t got the funds or equipment then this more simplified version will be great for you. Using normal card blanks and a paper kit you can create a stunning memory book for any occasion.” Tracey Collett

To create the concertina book, you will need at a minimum of 4, 6”x6” card blanks, which you simply stick one side of a card blank to the next (as shown in photo 2) and so on as shown in photo 3.
Fold and crease each fold back and forth so that you create a concertina. Next you can fold the card box ready to decorate. The construction process works for any size of card so you can make these in a variety of sizes and shapes.

Now for the decorating process, this is the fun part, I find that using a paper kit like those by The Paper Boutique work so well for any memory book project as you receive coordinating papers which will work perfectly across each page, the Paper Boutique kits also come with matching toppers so this adds more elements for your pages too. Each page can then include things like pockets, bands to hold cards and other elements to hold precious memories and photos. Even the offcuts can be reused to create borders and decoupaged elements. The following photos give you an idea of what you can achieve without dies but incorporating those would also add even more layers and detail too.

As you can see, by simply using layers you can create stunning layouts, I’ve made tags and slotted those into a pocket which I made using a page which I fussy cut the flowers out and used tape around the edges to create that pocket. Adding sentiments and quotes helps add that personal touch too. This paper kit is called Ocean’s Breeze and took me to my happy place beside the sea whilst I created this project and that’s what is so amazing about these memory books. To finish decorate the box lid and inside if you wish to do so, this just adds the finishing touch to your project and creates a great gift for many special occasions.
