Turn your fabric into a colourful quilt - perfect to keep you cosy at night
Slice a 20cm patterned square in half somewhere (it doesn’t matter where), then cut a contrasting solid strip, 4cm wide and slightly longer than the square. Sew this strip to one half of the cut, then join the other half of the square to the other side of the strip. When inserting the solid strip, don’t line the ends up perfectly.
Cut the square in half again, this time at 90° to the first cut. Insert another strip, lining up to make a cross on your fabric square. Trim to 20cm square. Make more patches in the same way until you have 12 complete squares. Press the quilt top.
Place the backing fabric face down, the wadding in-between, then the patterned section face up on top. Pin, then quilt all three layers using your favourite pattern. We have used a diagonal wavy pattern in a free-form style. Trim, then square or round the corners, then bind the edges using bias binding.
