Hair Accessories Sarah Payne

This project will teach you how to make beautiful floral hair pieces using florist wire, felt, beads, and embellishments of your choice. Mix and match colours to create accessories suitable for all occasions!

You Will Need:

  • Felt (acrylic or wool)
  • Stamens
  • Florist tape
  • Florist wires
  • Feathers
  • Leaves
  • Beads
  • Hot glue gun

  1. Start by make the centre of the rose. Take a beading wire and snip so you have a third of the length. Thread the wire through a bead. Hold it between your thumb and forth finger and twist until it’s secure.

  2. Do the same with two more lengths of wire. Now, with your three individual strands, twist them all together. This makes the rose’s centre.

  3. Create the rose by cutting four small circles from the felt to create petals. Thread a needle and wrap the first petal around the stamen so it encompasses the beads in the centre. Secure at the base with a few stitches.

  4. Wrap the second petal on top the opposite side and secure with stitches. Add your remaining felt petals to resemble a rose.

  5. You can create larger roses in this same way by cutting larger circles in the felt, or use paper flowers. Assemble your bits and pieces. If you use a feather on a longer piece of wire, you can wrap this piece around all your flowers to keep it all together.

  6. For a neat finish, cut a length of florist tape and position around the top of the wire, and then pull and stretch to release the glue to make it stick to the wire.

  7. Once you are happy with your design, attach to a clip. First, cut two pieces of felt into circles, one larger than the second. The larger circle should cover the back of the hair accessories so that it covers the wire.

  8. Take your smaller piece of felt and attach it to the clip. Glue over the bottom of the clip and over the felt and then stick down onto the back of the flowers.
