What You Need

You Will Need:

  • Felt: white 20 x 15 cm, red 9 x 7 cm, green 5 x 3 cm, brown 3 x 2 cm.
  • Embroidery cotton: 1 skein of dark green.
  • Ribbon: 18 cm.
  • Toy filling: 5 grams.
  • Dried lavender flowers: 10 grams.
  • Scissors, pins and an embroidery needle.

I would advise to split the embroidery cotton and only use 2 strands: simply cut a length of cotton and untwist it. Take two strands and thread your neddle.

  1. Cut out the pattern and transfer to the felt by drawing around the template directly onto the felt. Cut out the felt pieces.

  2. Take one of the white rectangles vertically (this will be the front of the bag). Place the apple, stalk and leaf in the centre and pin to hold. Sew with a back stitch a few millimetres from the edges in a continous line. The stitching becomes part of the design (A). You can also write a name or message on the front or back piece of the bag, using a backstitch to embroider it.

  3. Once you are happy with the front, take a length or ribbon folded in half to form a loop and place it inside the back piece of the bag at the top. Hold in place with a few small stitches (B). Do not cut your thread, simply position the front piece on top of the back piece with the ribbon ends sandwich in between. Stitch all the way round with a blanket stitch (C). Leave a gap to fill: add half the toy filling at the bottom and then the lavender; finish with the rest of the toy filling at the top to seal everything in. Carry on stitching to go back to where you started. Make a knot and cut your thread.
