Layered Stag Paper Cut

“This is a beautiful home décor layered paper art piece that incorporates the art of paper cutting, and layering techniques. The cutting is small and may take practice, don’t be discouraged, it will pay off! This can all be achieved in three steps.” - Carla Bagshaw

Tools and materials required

  • American Craft Cardstock (12 x 12) or similar.
  • Foam Pad Stickers
  • Craft Knife and bladesv
  • Self healing or glass cutting mat
  • Box Frame
  • Masking Tape
  • Printed Templates

Instructions

Print out the 4 templates, if you have a printer able to print on thicker paper stock then print direct onto colour. If not, print on printer paper and, using masking tape, place the template onto the appropriate coloured paper so you can cut through both. Use the scalpel to cut around each image from the four templates.

1

In order to create depth and shadows you will need to use foam sticky pads to stick each layer on top of the next. It works better using darker colours at the back and working to the lightest colour at the front, using a black square at the back as background.

2

Your final step is to place the piece in a square box frame (23x23cm). I used further sticky pads to secure the piece into the frame on a white piece of card the same size as the frame. Be careful with any glass edges.
