This little toy space rocket has a pocket on the front. This would make a lovely gift for a child. This project can be machined or hand stitched.
This can be made any size and in either fabric or felt (I've used both). If you would like to you can upload the PDF template to your scan and cut and resize to any size you would like.
Cut out your fabric. Using the templates provided cut your felt and fabric shapes and if you would like a pocket you will need to cut a piece of fabric approximately 12cm x 16cm. You can use any fabric and patterned fabric, so why not mix it up a little.
If you want to use a fusible interface to make your project more rigid, you will need to cut out two pieces for the rocket body and one for the pocket, cut these a little smaller than your template. (I have used an Iron on Fusible interface) you need to Attach your fusible interfacing on the wrong side of your fabric before you start sewing.
Making the pocket.
Fold the top edge of your rectangle piece of fabric over about 1CM as shown and press. Sew along the folded edge (I've added a ribbon trim). Position on the rocket front and stitch in place close to the edge of the rocket. Trim the pocket.
Adding your window.
Position the window on the rocket front and stitch in place..
>Making your wings
Place two wing pieces right sides together and sew the bottom and curved edges. Turn to the right side and fill with toy stuffing.
Adding wings to your rocket
Position on the rocket front facing inwards as shown and stitch in place. Repeat for the other side.
Making your Rocket Flames
Place your two flame pieces wrong sides together and sew around the edge leaving the flat side open and then fill with toy stuffing.
Making your Rocket
Position the rocket back face down on the rocket front. Sew around the edge leaving the bottom, flat edge, open. Trim the point and turn to the right side.
Now fill your rocket with toy stuffing then fold in the bottom edge, insert the flames and sew up the gap.
You are finished! I hope your little ones like their new toy rocket, I know mine does!Download the template
