Mixed Media Painted Card

Tools and Materials Required

Cut down the black card, so that it will fit into the die cutting machine. Squeeze a small bit of each of the paint colours onto a mixed media mat. Use a palette knife to paint sections of colour onto the black card. Remember to wipe down the palette knife in-between paint colours.

Use a water spray on the paint on the mixed media mat. Then add a bit of the watered-down paint to the palette knife. Flick the end of the palette knife. This will make a paint spray effect. It is worth practising this technique beforehand. Wait until the paint is dry.

Clean up the paint from the mixed media mat. (To not waste the paint, press a spare sheet of card on it for another project.) Decide where the dies will go on the paint sections. Use the Sizzix Makers tape to secure them in place. Then put through a die cutting machine. Keep doing this until there is no space left on the painted card.

Decide which colours go best together in the die cut pieces. Then glue them together. For this project, only 2 finished pieces will be used.

Cut a 6 by 6 inch square of black card and a 5 ¼ by 5 ¼ inch square of brown card.

Pour a bit of each paint colour on the media mat. Use a blending tool with sponge to gently pat into the paint. Then pat gently along the edge of the black card. This will give a uniform look to the paint. Do this with all colours, remembering to use a different blending sponge for each.

Add water to the paint on the mixed media mat using the spray bottle. Then like in Step 2., flick the different coloured watered down paints at the black square. The edges are the only bits that will be seen in this card. Wait for the card to dry.

Glue the brown card onto the black card. Cut a 10.5 by 3.5cm rectangle of cream card. Use a corner punch on it. Glue it onto the centre of the brown card. Cut a 1 ½ inch wide strip of vellum. Use the anti static bag on the vellum. Then with the Versamark ink pad and a stamp press add the sentiment into the middle of the vellum strip. Finally add gold embossing powder, and use a heat gun. Wrap the vellum around the black card, making sure that the sentiment is over the cream card. Fix in place with glue.

Add the 2 floral die cut pieces with foam pads to make them stand out from the card.

Affix the black card to the card blank. The card is now complete.
