Patchwork Hoop Décor

Learn how to make this patched design using an embroidery hoop.

You Will Need:

  • Fabric bundles: Tilda Sweetheart; Beyond Fabrics
  • Plain cotton fabric
  • Wooden embroidery hoops
  • Embroidery thread

  1. Cut several 6cm wide strips of patterned and plain cottons. Sew them end-to-end and trim into rectangles with the seam in the middle. Take a leftover piece of strip and stitch to another end.

  2. Piece the rectangles together, adding extra fabric to the sides as necessary or trimming down the edges to build up a random patchwork panel. Ensure the seams all run at right angles for a neater finish.

  3. Once large enough to fit inside an embroidery hoop, press and pin to a square of felt wadding. Zig zag stitch the panel to the felt around the edges and trim away any excess.

  4. Place the panel in the hoop and tighten the outer ring. Fold and pleat the corners to the back of the work and pin in place through the felt backing only.
