“Mini plants, especially cacti and succulents, are extremely popular at the moment. If you don’t want the upkeep of a real plant and would like one that will last forever then why not craft your own? This cute cactus is made from pom poms so it certainly won’t need watering and there’s no chance of you pricking your finger on a spike!” Sarah Jackman Read
Make a pom pom by opening up a 65mm pom pom maker then wrap dark brown wool around one side until it’s completely full. Snap back in place then repeat on the other side. Trim through the centre of the wool on each side, place a length of wool in the centre then tie into a double knot.
Remove the pom pom from the pom pom maker, trim off the excess lengths of wool then glue into the base of a mini terracotta pot with a glue gun.
Make two green pom poms using the same size pom pom maker. When removing from the maker don’t trim off the excess threads.
Hold onto the excess threads and trim around a pom pom to create an oval shape. Repeat with the other pom pom then tie them together with the excess threads.
Trim away the excess threads then trim one of the pom poms so it’s about a third smaller than the other.
Make a yellow pom pom using a 35mm pom pom maker, remove, then trim to neaten. Glue on top of the smaller oval pom pom with a glue gun.
Apply glue to the bottom of the oval pom poms with a glue gun then adhere on top of the brown pom pom in the terracotta pot.Trim away any messy ends.
