What You Need

You Will Need:

  • Rare Earth Cogs and Gear Collection
  • Rare Earth Watercolour Palette
  • Watercolour Paper
  • Rare Earth Stamping Card
  • Ranger Embossing Kit
  • Twine
  • Sponge Dauber or Blending Tool
  • Rare Earth Load 'N' Fold Stamping Tool Set
  • Rare Earth A4 Black Card
  • Black sequins or a black embellishment
  • Core Collection A4 Card Colour Shades

Card 1 Instructions:

  1. Using a piece of white stamping cardstock cut to 5 1/2” x 5 1/2”. Stamp the cogs background stamp from the Lab stamp set. This is a repeating pattern stamp which means you can create larger backgrounds. I have used a permanent black ink to stamp with.

Once you have stamped the first part of your image, reposition your card stock and stamp to line up using a load & fold. Then mount on to black cardstock.

  2. Using a piece of stamping card cut to 2.5“ x 2.5“ stamp the head images from the Mechanical life stamp set. Then Mount onto black card stock.

  3. Using the Congratulations stamp from the Ranger embossing kit. Stamp onto a piece of cardstock and cut down to size and mount on to black card. I have stamped in permanent black ink.

  4. Adhere your background paper to your 6“ x 6“ card base. Then position your heads and sentiment, when you are happy with the placement adhere down using foam pads

  5. Add some Black sequins or a black embellishment of your choice. I like to use 3 or 5 as I feel odd numbers look best.

Card 2 Instructions:

  1. Using a piece of watercolour cardstock cut to 5 1/2” x 5 1/2”. Stamp the crackled background stamp from the Lab stamp set. This is not a repeating pattern but works just as well.

Once you have stamped the first part of your image, reposition your card stock and stamp to line up using a load & fold. I have used a permanent black ink to stamp with as I am using the Rare Earth Watercolour Palette to add colour.

  2. Add a layer of water to your stamped watercolour paper. Then add drops of colour from your Rare Earth Watercolour Palette, use the brush in the palette to pick up your colour and let the colour bleed into the water. I have used dark blue, light blue and purple. When you are happy with the mix of colours leave to dry.

Once dry stamp a screw head from the Iron Works stamp set in each corner, then use a sponge dauber or blending tool to add ink around the edge of the card, I have used a desert sand colour for this.

Tie some twine around the bottom of your watercolour card, then mount onto dark blue cardstock.

  3. Stamp the goggles image from the Iron Works stamp set onto stamping cardstock and colour using the Rare Earth Watercolour Palette.

Use a pair of scissors to scrape along the side of the card to give it a distressed look.

Then use a sponge dauber or blending tool to add ink around your image leaving a white border around the goggles. I have used a desert sand colour for this.

  4. Stamp the hot air balloon image from Mechanical Life on to watercolour cardstock and colour using the Rare Earth Watercolour Palette.

Cut out the image and leave a small border, then use a sponge dauber or blending tool to add ink around your image.

  5. Stamp a sentiment and a screw head at each end onto stamping cardstock and use a sponge dauber or blending tool to add ink around your sentiment, then mount onto the same dark blue cardstock as your background. (I have used a sentiment from my stash of stamps)

  6. Use a sponge dauber or blending tool to add ink around the edge of your card base.

  7. Now position your goggles, hot air balloon and sentiment on to your background piece, when you are happy with the placement adhere down using foam pads and then adhere to your card base.

Card 3 Instructions:

  1. Using a piece of white stamping cardstock cut to 5 1/2” x 5 1/2”. Stamp the mechanical bird image from the Clockwork stamp set randomly onto the cardstock.

  2. Use a sponge brayer tool to pick up some ink either from an ink pad or drop some ink onto a glass matt, ensure you have an even coverage on the sponge roller. I have used a desert sand colour for this.

Roll across your stamped cardstock and work up from the bottom to the middle of the card. To give an ombre affect going from dark to light.

Ink up the roller and work up the card, only pressing very lightly, the colour will not go down too heavy as the sponge allows you to keep adding colour, one of the advantages of using a sponge brayer is you can easily blend harsh lines. If you get any lines just keep going over the area back and forth and it will blend a way. To make an area darker keep adding ink and keep blending.

Now using the same technique choose a different colour (I am using a blue) work from the top of the card down to the middle and blend the colour in the middle.

This can be a bit messy so ensure you are working on an easy clean surface such as a glass matt.

Tie some navy twine around the side of the card, then mount onto black cardstock.

  3. Stamp the mechanical bird, clock mechanism from the Clockwork stamp set and the pocket watch from the Iron Works stamp set on to stamping card and cut out. Colour your images using the Rare Earth Watercolour Palette.

  4. Using the Hello stamp from the Ranger embossing kit, stamp onto a piece of cardstock and cut down to size. Use a permanent black ink to stamp the sentiment. Then use the same blending technique to match the background and mount on to black card.

  5. Now position your mechanical bird, clock mechanism, pocket watch and sentiment on to your background piece, when you are happy with the placement adhere down using foam pads and then adhere to your card base.

Add some Black sequins or a black embellishment of your choice. I like to use 3.

You are finished and have 3 lovely cards using the same stamp set, I hope this has given you some inspiration.
