Create gorgeous, multi layered, sepia effect cards using stamping techniques and Chameleon pens.
Begin by selecting your focal stamp image for the card. Stamp this on to a cream coloured card using Tsukineko Momento Rich Cocoa ink.
Colour the stamped image using Chameleon Color Tones BR4 Burnt Umber. Start by blending the brush tip of color tones with the pen’s blending chamber, this results in a lighter tone. On the higher areas of the image, colour the lightest tones, as the pen graduates towards darks tone, move to colouring the areas that would be in shadow. This adds a dimensional finish to your image, as well as giving it a sepia effect. Remember, you can blend the pen as many times as you need to. Also, if you need to lighten any areas, you can do so by using the Chameleon blender pen.
Next, select further vintage style stamps that work with your theme, and stamp these onto deli paper using Tsukineko Versafine Vintage Sepia ink. Trim round the stamped images with scissors and set them to one side.
Create the base layer of the card. Trim cream coloured card to 6.5” x 6.5” and using a round blending tool, apply Ranger Distress Oxide Vintage Photo around the edges of the mat layer. Spritz with water to give a distressed look, and dry with a heat tool.
Take a 6x6 layer of card and rip around the edges to create a worn look; for this card I have used card from the “Delicate Floret” pad by Love Nicole. Test your layout by laying out the stamped pieces.
Add more ripped paper layers all in keeping with the theme; again, test the layout to make sure you are happy with the design.
Once you have selected your layout, glue the papers in place. Apply glue with a flat wide brush to the surface of your base layer. Spritz the papers with a little water, place the papers onto the base, and seal with a further layer of glue.
To further age the card, brush over the papers using a light wash of white gesso and a flat wide brush. Build the wash in patches to create more opaque areas. Once dry, spritz the layer with a light dusting of Tattered Angels Vintage Brass to give it a light shine.
Add a final layer of stamping to the card. Use Tsukineko Versafine Vintage Sepia and a selection of old script style stamps to add to the theme.
Mount the first mat and layer using double sided tape to your 7” x 7” card blank. Mount the next layer using foam to lift it from the background. I have also added the image stamped on deli paper to the bottom right, positioning this so it comes over the layer’s edge helps draw the layers together. Pearls have also been added to the top left for extra detail.
Finally add your focal image, mounted on foam to lift it from the background. Select your sentiment die and colour this using the same Chameleon pen as used in the focal image. Give the sentiment a drop shadow effect using the same papers as within your design, and mount on foam to finish.
