Shabby Chic Clock

  • Home Crafts
  • 1-2 hours
  • Intermediate

You will need:

  • MDF wood
  • Decoupage paper
  • Decoupage varnish
  • Material of your choice for the numbers, I used coins
  • Ribbon, wire or twine

  1. Cover alternate strips of MDF wood with decoupage paper, using a special decoupage varnish to stick and seal it. I liked these BoBunny papers as I wanted a travel theme for my clock, and the balloons harmonised well with the ditzy print. Use several coats of varnish for a professional look.

  2. Fix the clock onto the base when it’s fully dry, and then add your own 'numbers'. I used coins from different countries to illustrate the time, in keeping with my travel theme.

  3. Fix ribbon, wire or twine onto the top strut on the back of the clock to hang it.

Top Tip

These make great presents as you can customise them to suit friends and family – using scrabble pieces, buttons, stamps, or bits of broken jewellery for the numbers on your clock.
