Upcycled shabby chic style tray , by Siobhan Ferguson

Lots of soft fruit comes in fantastic wooden boxes or mini crates. Upcycle one of these into a lovely shabby chic style tray. Project made over 2 days to allow drying time

You Will Need:

  • A wooden box or crate to decorate
  • Anna Marie Designs Chalky Vintage Look paint – in 2 co-ordinating colours
  • Viva Antik-Lack Crackle glaze
  • Paint brush/li>
  • Sponges
  • Anna Marie Designs Decorative napkins
  • Mod Podge Gloss finish

Instructions:

  1. Upcycled Tray

Take your wooden box/ crate and give the exterior a couple of coats of Chalky vintage look paint, allowing time to dry between coats.

  2. Upcycled Tray

Apply a good coat of Viva Antik-Lack Crackle glaze over the painted area, again allow time to dry (I left this overnight)

  3. Upcycled Tray

Apply a coat of your chosen co-ordinating chalky vintage look paint, very quickly as the paint is drying you will see the cracks starting to appear.

  4. Upcycled Tray

Continue with the same Chalky vintage look paint and apply to the walls of the interior of the box, allow to dry fully.

  5. Upcycled Tray

Cut a napkin to size to fit the base of the tray, remove the layers leaving only the printed layer.

  6. Upcycled Tray

Apply a coat of Mod podge to the base of the tray, carefully place the napkin over. Apply another layer of Mod Podge over the napkin. Your napkin is very delicate, I found applying the Mod Podge with a sponge minimised damage to the napkin.

If required, apply a second layer over the napkin. Leave to dry fully before using.
