How to Make a Light–up Star Garland

“These are super cute and make perfect Christmas decorations! However, I use mine as a nightlight for my son who is not so keen on the dark. They can be hung on a wall, on a dresser or from a shelf for a little added atmosphere.” - Carla Bagshaw

You will need:

  • Paper stock in your choice of colours (approx. 140gsm)
  • Scissors
  • Liquid glue (PVA or solvent glue)
  • LED lights (battery powered)
  • Star template printed X 2
  • Ball tool (optional)

  • 1

Print out the star template and cut around the eight star shapes. The coloured lines indicate where the shapes will eventually be scored or folded.

Place a star over your coloured paper and cut around. You can use the template to either score through the template and coloured paper or you can simply fold on those lines, making sure you also fold down the tabs.

  • 2

When your half-star is cut and folded it will ‘pop’ into a 3D shape. The tabs affix to an opposing half of the star, and this is the fiddly bit. Place glue onto one tab, and push both half of the stars flat so that they can have chance to stick. Continue until you are halfway around.

  • 3

Thread the LED light string through the star and then continue to stick the remaining tabs together. Repeat for each 3D star, you can use as many or as few as you desire according to the length of your LED’s.

TIP: Always check your LED’s are working before you begin the project.
