If haunting headstones set upon an earthy bed of bones isn’t enough, these Tombstone Two-Tone Cupcakes have another thrilling surprise for you! Buried beneath the chocolate icing, you’ll find a glowing green centre encased by an orange cupcake shell – made using the batter-dividing Two-Tone Cupcake Pan Set.
Each cupcake serves one.
Make the tombstones one day in advance.
Knead 1/4 teaspoon of Gum-Tex into 2oz. of fondant. Tint the fondant grey. Use a fondant roller with purple guide rings to roll out 1/8” thick. Cut the tombstones using the tombstone cutter or, alternatively, cut out freehand, then let them dry overnight on a cornstarch-dusted cake board. Once completely dry, use a black edible colour marker to print R.I.P. on the tombstones.
Make the cupcakes.
Prepare batter following the recipe directions. Tint 1/3 of the batter green and 2/3 of the batter orange. Place the two-tone insert in a baking cup-lined muffin pan. Use a disposable decorating bag to fill the centre ring of the insert 2/3 full with green batter. Then, use another disposable decorating bag to fill the outer ring of the insert 2/3 full with orange batter. Remove the insert and repeat until all the cavities are filled. Remove the insert, then bake and cool the cupcakes.
