Trimcraft’s Craft Coordinator, Kathy Hodson, takes you on a woodland adventure with this incredible Easel Card Project. A fantastic project for beginners and intermediate crafters, this stunning woodland-themed card is the perfect way to say happy birthday to someone special.
Trim a piece of the textured woodgrain paper from the First Edition Love Story Paper pad in half to measure 12 inches by 6 inches (30cm by 15cm). Score at 4 inches and 8 inches (10cm and 20cm) to create three panels.
From the first panel, cut an aperture measuring 6cm square (2 3/8 inches) and place vellum behind the window. Trim a piece of the brown floral patterned paper to 4 inches by 6 inches (10 by 15cm) and place on the reverse of the third panel.
Cut two of the woodland scene dies from the pale woodgrain paper and fussy cut the deer from the trees from one of them. Also cut one standing stag, one stag’s head and the ‘Happy Birthday’ sentiment from this paper. Cut the two individual stags again, this time from the brown arrow paper.
Note: for the standing stag, you will need to cut from the wrong side of the paper so that it faces the right way.
Cut two panels of the pale woodgrain paper measuring 6 inches by 3/4 inch (15cm by 2cm). Cut two panels from the brown arrow paper as wide as the arrows and place on top of the woodgrain panels. Fix these to the card, either side of the aperture.
Wrap gardener’s twine around the card and tie in a bow on the right-hand side.
Fix the stag in the woodland die-cut on top of the vellum panel and fix the additional deer on top using foam pads.
Layer each of the individual stag die cuts to create a drop shadow effect and fix the standing deer on the left of the card and the stag’s head on the top right.
Layer the ‘Happy Birthday’ sentiment onto the brown arrow paper and cut around the edges. Fix to the base panel using foam pads or foam tape to create an easel card stopper.
