Watercolour Flower Card

“Distress inks are extremely versatile and as they are water based they are great to use as a watercolour. In this tutorial I have shown how easy it is to watercolour an image and background to make a gorgeous spring card.” – Shabneez Khan-Muztar

You will need:

  • Elizabeth Craft Design Garden Notes Oval Dies
  • Tumbled Glass Distress Ink Mini Pad
  • Mowed Lawn Distress Ink
  • Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink
  • Mustard Seed Distress Ink
  • Scattered Straw Distress Ink
  • Twisted Citron Distress Ink
  • Ranger Paint Brushes
  • Versafine Ink Pad
  • Watercolour Card
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Die Cutting Machine
  • Ranger Birthday Sentiments Stamp Set
  • Stampers Anonymous Flower Garden Stamp Set

Time to Make: 30 Minutes

Skill Level: Intermediate

  1. planning Cut out a frame set from the oval dies as shown.
  2. planning Stamp the image on to watercolour card using an appropriate waterproof ink pad as this will ensure your stamped image doesn’t bleed. Leave it to dry or use a heat gun to ensure it is dry. Then with a flat paintbrush go over the entire image with water to wet the cardstock, this ensures you have a porous surface to paint on.
  3. planning With the same flat paintbrush dab some tumbled glass distress ink onto your glass mat and dilute it with water before adding it to your image so you create a blue background.
  4. planning Switch to a finer paintbrush and do the same as above with brushed corduroy distress ink for the flower centre.
  5. planning Use a combination of scattered straw and mustard seed inks to paint the flower petals. You can add more ink until you are happy.
  6. planning For the stem and leaves use Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn distress inks, making the veins darker.
  7. planning Stamp out Birthday Wishes for the sentiment and back onto black card.
  8. planning To assemble the card stick the image onto a blue 5”x7” card blank and with foam pads add the next frame finishing with the aperture. Stick the sentiment along the bottom.
