5 ways with lace

Give an ordinary item an ethereal makeover with the use of this delicate material

5 ways with lace

Lace votive candle holder

A simple glass votive wrapped in black lace will create a dramatic effect in your home décor. Cut a few inches of black lace trim ensuring that you've got just enough to cover the circumference of the candle. Overlap the edges of your lace around the candle, then using a needle and black thread make small stitches to fix in place. Put a battery-operated light inside your candle holder and watch it emit a lovely glow.

Lace plant pot

Terracotta pots decorated with white lace will look beautiful dotted around the home, and they'll also make a simple project that'll only take you around an hour to complete. Source glue, scissors, a plant pot, a paint brush and white lace cut into strips at whatever length and width suits the pot. Brush glue all over the pot, adhere the lace to it, then brush an extra layer of glue over the top to seal. Allow your pot to dry completely before placing a plant inside.

Lace-patterned journal

Keep all your memories safe in a beautifully decorated journal in just a few steps. You'll need your journal, of course, and lace cut to size, as well as fabric paint in the colour of your choice, and tape. Place the lace on top of the journal and tape it firmly to the inside of the cover to keep it in place. Spray fabric paint all over the lace, and when it's almost dry, remove the tape and lace. Let the paint continue to dry for a few hours before adding your next adventure inside.

Lace vase

Jazz up a plain vase with lace in any colour for a touch of creativity. Gather strips of lace and fabric glue, then adhere the lace to the vase and leave to dry. Fill the vase with beautiful flowers, and whether you place it on a windowsill or mantlepiece, it'll surely be a focal point when guests visit.

Lace coaster

Coasters decorated with lace will brighten any table setting. Cut a strip of lace and wrap it around a coaster using fabric glue to secure into place. It's really that simple! If you're feeling a little bit quirky, decorate the coasters with different shades of lace. They'll be the talk of the dinner table!
