If you’re looking for the perfect Father’s Day card to craft at home, then look no further than this brilliant shirt and tie card. This easy-to-make card requires only a few materials and the method is simple, so even little ones can get involved. The design can be personalize in any way you like, such as using a bow tie instead of a regular tie, adding buttons down the front, or adding your own sentiment. Whichever way you choose to design this card, we guarantee it’ll raise a few smiles this Father’s Day.
Take the sheet of A4 card you want to use to create the shirt. Hold it landscape and fold it in half vertically. Using a pair of scissors, cut along the crease so you have an A5 sheet of card.
Using a ruler, measure 4cm down the A5 card going from the top, and create a dot; you need to create this dot on the left-hand and right-hand side of the card. Using a pencil, draw a faint line across the top of the card, using the two dots as a guide.
Using scissors, cut along the pencil line at each end until you get approximately 3cm from the center. Fold the two sides inwards so the top corners meet; the two corners should join to form a shirt collar. Once you’re happy with the shape of the collar, glue the two folds down along the upper edge and allow them to dry.
On the same type of card you’ve used to create the shirt, draw a 5cm x 5cm square and then cut it out; this will be the pocket. Fold back the top of the square to create the appearance of a seam, and then glue it down. Do not glue the pocket onto the shirt.
Using our tie template, draw the tie onto a new sheet of cardstock and then cut it out. Using the same cardstock, cut a small triangle shape to create a coordinating pocket square. The pocket square needs to be slightly smaller than the pocket to create the appearance that it’s sitting in the pocket.
Using standard craft glue, attach the pocket square to the back of the pocket so it’s exposed at the top, and then attach the pocket to the shirt. Then attach the tie to the shirt.
This step is to be completed by an adult only. Using a hot glue gun, attach buttons to the collar of the shirt and then leave the card to dry completely.
Take a new sheet of A4 cardstock and fold it in half vertically to create an A5 card blank. Using standard craft glue or a hot glue gun, attach the shirt design onto the card blank and allow it to dry completely.
You can now add your own sentiments and messages to the front and center of the card!
